"The club adopted a pediatric ward in a district hospital in Las Piñas City and donated nebulizers, cribs, and other equipment and medicine."

QI of Liverpool, New South Wales, Australia
"Club provides materials that mothers would normally need right after giving birth. They donate these items to the hospital (to give to the new mothers). Shelters won't take the women right after giving birth if they come empty-handed."

QI of Massillon, Ohio, U.S.A.
"We run the 'Sound Beginnings' program. State provides hearing screening and the club provides intervention. With funding from grants, newborn infants up through children three years old are provided with hearing aids."

"Club donated bears to the pediatric ward of the hospital."

"Club members mentored disadvantaged women identified by the hospital who were about to give birth. Mentoring continued after women had given birth."

"The club organized baby packs with everything a baby will need when they come home from the hospital. They keep two on hand for each boy and girl."

QI of Whakatane, New Zealand
"Ongoing support to community and local health professionals to continue with an Otoacoustic Emission (OAE) machine and screening of new born infants in conjunction with project Heidi and the New Zealand government. Also, our club sponsors a hearing testing van that goes to different areas and tests the hearing of people. Both of these projects are confirmed for at least 5 years."

"Brought in self-esteem speaker and had 1,000 students and their parents attend free of charge. Started with grades 5 through 7. Trying to combat drug and alcohol abuse in the young."

QI of Atascadero, California, U.S.A.
"Club made up school backpacks filled with school supplies and other personal items. These were given to homeless shelters for women and children."

QI of Bakersfield, California, U.S.A.
"In October, members begin to make fleece blankets for children in the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Program. These are abused or neglected children who have been removed from their homes. They leave with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. Most of us do not knit or crochet, but we can all use scissors. We buy colorful, "kid" print fleece and cut it into 4 by 5 inch squares, fringe it, then roll it up with a small stuffed animal inside and tied up with the salvage. It really helps with club fellowship as everyone really enjoys doing the hands-on part of it and the joy it brings to the children."

"Club has given 80,078 books to Cops 'n' Kids. Have also established a reading room furnished by Ethan Allen, staffed by all volunteers. Club members held a banquet that raised $85,000 and gained loads of publicity."

"Club runs an after school karate club. The club provides these children with enrichment, physical activity, gifts at holidays, and Quota members mentor the children."

"Sponsor disadvantaged children to go out to the theater and dinner."

QI of Coolum Beach, Queensland, Australia
"Club did a project for children who have social problems. It is called program Connect. The kids, together with a youth worker, collect lost bikes from the police. They repair the bikes and send them overseas for use."

QI of Curaçao, Curaçao
"Each year our club delivers schoolbags with school supplies in them to several schools on the island which had requested the donations for disadvantaged children at their school. We have distributed 1,000 schoolbags this year and we started four years ago with 250 bags. We receive most of the materials from our sponsors. Each school sends in the quantity they need and a list is made to divide the deliveries among our members."

QI of Gridley, California, U.S.A.
"Club organized Step Fit to combat obesity and Type 2 Diabetes in conjunction with schools. The club bought 1,000 pedometers and donated them to schools to increase students' physical activity. This was more successful in elementary schools. Schools are currently cutting back or removing physical education programs. The club also worked with schools to also have better nutrition programs."

"Give a kid a holiday. Raise money through the year and send a kid to camp."

"Backpack project for children who had to be removed from their homes by the authorities. Solicited donations for items to put in the backpacks."

"Club gave medallion to a "quiet achiever"—a child who has achieved but not in academics or sport."

"The club helped the Children's Aid Society by making back pack kits to provide items of necessity to displaced children."

"Quota donates books for needy children. We actually see the children receive them. Donations of books and money for books came from local businessmen."

QI of Salisbury, Maryland, U.S.A.
"Extending the club's Cops 'n' Kids program with the establishment of Quota Quiet Corners. These corners are in child friendly environments. The club provides books, shelving, rugs, and bean bags. Once a month the children are able to take home a book of their choice. The club provides a book mark with each book given. The bookmark has a picture of the mascot (an owl), a short bio of QI, and the club name and address. College students come in to read to the children. So far, four corners have been set up."

QI of Sandgate, Queensland, Australia
"The club hosted a children's breakfast, providing breakfast for five schools and a total of 1,500 students. The students got cereal, fruit, and milk. The club members were touched personally by how appreciative the children were."

QI of Santa Maria, California, U.S.A.
"The club taught disadvantaged children a craft and then had them take the craft they made and donate it to someone else. They taught them something new each month."

QI of Sioux City, Iowa, U.S.A.
"Club brought a signing Santa (for deaf children) to local mall. Used contacts in school system and newspaper ads to promote event."

QI of Southeast Texas, Texas, U.S.A.
"Created Easter Baskets for boys and girls homes. Items are put in backpacks, tote bags, buckets or such with a personal item included with candies. At Christmas time, club collects underwear for low-income, school-age children as well as socks and small shoes with a surprise inside the sock or one shoe."

QI of Taunton, Massachusetts, U.S.A.
"Quota members read to children at the local public school (one special needs class and all of the kindergarten classrooms). The teachers select the books and the members come in for a half hour a month. There is a wonderful bonding between members and young children as well as an appreciation from the educators."

QI of Thuringowa, Queensland, Australia
"Sponsors a group of children to take part in Life Education. Club holds a Teddy Bear Picnic. It is a free activity day for children, and bears are presented to emergency service workers. The picnic day at the park attracted several hundred children. There was a signing choir, entertainment, and a fun presentation of bears to the fire brigade, police, and ambulance service."

QI of Tulsa, Oklahoma, U.S.A.
"The club made relief packages for disadvantaged women and children."

QI of Valdosta, Georgia, U.S.A.
"Gave 44 children of U.S. soldiers in Iraq $40 gift cards to Wal-Mart for back to school shopping."

"Support shelter for homeless teenagers where they can stay up to two years. We help the teenagers create a garden and learn other life skills, helping them to become productive adults."

QI of Kyogle, New South Wales, Australia
"Fund life education program in high schools. It discusses drugs, healthy living, pregnancy prevention, self-worth, etc."

QI of Sioux City, Iowa, U.S.A.
"The club held an 8th-grade girls honor luncheon. Schools nominate girls for improved behavior; they are given an award and recognition for their improved behavior (not necessarily top academics)."

QI of Tacoma, Washington, U.S.A.
"We helped Faith Homes Union Street Group Home for Girls 13 to 18 years old. We applied hands-on help in repairing, painting, and redecorating the home. We supplied paint, wallpaper, door locks, and knobs all installed by members. We also bought new appliances for the kitchen. We provided mentoring and organized focus groups with the girls helping them with financial information, hygiene training, etiquette when dining out, social graces etc. These activities have been held over a two-year period and are ongoing. They really brought our club together and gave all members of all ages an opportunity to grow and come closer together within the club."

"The club supports two women's refuge centers in a 350 km radius. They provide personal essentials and special gifts for the women and children at Christmas."

QI of Brisbane South, Queensland, Australia
"Brisbane South donates household items, clothing, and toiletries to the Women's Refuge, so that when they leave the refuge they have something to start their home all over again. We feel as a club it is women helping women. Domestic violence doesn't seem to be a "respect of person," so it has helped our club, as this situation may affect one of our members."

QI of Candlewood Valley, Connecticut, U.S.A.
"Donated laundry baskets filled with household items to women and children leaving the homeless shelter."

QI of Gridley, California, U.S.A.
"Club runs a thrift shop; all the clothing is donated and then sold. Clothing not sold is sent to a farm labor camp. The nice clothing is given to a local community college for ladies who need clothing for job interviews. It is also given to a shelter for women. Sold items bring finances and exposure to club."

"Provide three scholarships to disadvantaged women to get them off welfare and educate themselves to support their families."

"An endowment fund has been set up at our community college to help those women who are re-entering the workforce mid life. The funds are made available to these women (through application) to pay their college fees. There is also a fund available to pay for books and emergency needs as they may arise. We held the fundraiser "Salute to Staff" to fund the endowment fund."

QI of Taree, New South Wales, Australia
"We have adopted the Women's Refuge for disadvantaged women and children in crisis, an ongoing project. We regularly supply pamper packs for the women who arrive with very few possessions. This project is successful because it is a club involvement that is a yearly ongoing project. There is no publicity for this project because anonymity is very important for these women and children. Toys and clothes are provided for the children, especially at Christmas."

"Club members worked together for fund-raising for "Fresh Hope" drug rehabilitation for young mothers who can be treated with their children in residence and taught to be families again."

"We serve food for 50 people at Ronald McDonald House. This has total member involvement. Members feel fulfilled as they see the immediate benefit of their assistance. This is a very hands-on service project for which many members have been in similar situations and wished that they would have had caring folks in their time of need."

QI of Nambour, Queensland, U.S.A.
"Refuge for families. Supplies are donated and presents are provided during the holidays."

QI of Tacoma, Washington, U.S.A.
"Club members serve prepared meals at a sit-down dinner at a food bank for low-income families. After dinner the family members can go through donated clothes and pick something. The club pledged $10,000 to help with expansion of the facility."

QI of Taree, New South Wales, Australia
"Provided daily meals for a family whilst the mother was away with two children having cochlear implants fitted. One child was difficult at school and at home. The father needed help. The project was done privately with no publicity or fund-raising. It was a feel good situation, helping a family in need and giving moral support to the Dad."

"Hosted a picnic style dinner for approximately 250 seniors who weren't able to get out of their retirement homes."

QI of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia
"As part of our service, we provide a bingo night at two nursing homes. We give a small chocolate for a line win and a larger chocolate for each game winner. At the end of the evening, we give a small chocolate to anyone who did not win. We then offer a supper for the ladies and men with refreshments we provide."

"Four club members mentored clients in a nursing home."

Cowra Branch of QI of Parkes, New South Wales, Australia
"Our club provided assistance to neighbors—visiting the aged, shopping, and holding craft mornings. Our club also collected hearing aids."

QI of Monroe, Louisiana, U.S.A.
"Held a Quota bingo luncheon for the elderly."

QI of Papakura, New Zealand
"Senior Citizens concert held annually for 12 years. Advertise concert in rest homes, deliver in council flat letterboxes, and promote through other council and elderly groups. Members arrange to pick up those who need transport, some have walkers, etc. Past member and her husband run sing-a-longs. Club members provide a beautiful afternoon tea. This project gives an opportunity for those who don't get out much to have an outing. The benefits are seeing the looks on faces and that this has become an easily run project."

QI of Rotorua, New Zealand
"Several times a year members take lunch to the hospice. Our club also furnishes a room at the hospice and the room has been named after our club. We also provide a scholarship for advanced studies in sign language for court or legal situations."

QI of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, U.S.A.
"The club partnered with the Salvation Army to provide toiletry bags for approximately 130 seniors."

QI of Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia
"Club contacted the elderly to make toys out of fabric that the Quotarians will supply. The toys are meant for disadvantaged children."

"Two club members attend the Nursing Home weekly for three hours each time. They are supported by the club in whatever they need."
